In strong wind conditions, Lloyd Thornburg’s MOD70 Phaedo^3 took line honours in this year’s JP Morgan Asset Management Round the Island Race. and set a new race multi-hull record in a time of 2 hours 23 minutes and 23 seconds. In doing so, he smashed the record time set by Sir Ben Ainslie’s AC45 catamaran in 2013 by a stunning 28 minutes.
Tony Lawson’s MOD70 Concise 10, skippered by Ned Collier Wakefield, was next across the line, just over nine minutes later.
